The Grupo de Aprendizaje Automático/Machine Learning Group at the Departamento de Ingeniería Informática of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (http://arantxa.ii.uam.es/~gaa/ ) offers a postdoctoral position to work on acceleration methods for iterative model learning and their application as well as of other complementary Machine Learning approaches to achieve better predictions in renewable energy.
Candidates should have a recent, machine learning-related PhD in computer science or nearby areas, a solid research record and good programming abilities in Python and C/C++, being familiar with the main Python libraries for scientific computation and Machine Learning such as numpy, scipy, pandas, scikit—learn and others.
The position’s duration will be 18 months starting in principle on April 1st, 2017 and is funded through the project FACIL--Ayudas Fundación BBVA a Equipos de Investigación Científica 2016. Applicants should send a CV and a statement of research interests to jose.dorronsoro AT uam.es. This call will be open and applications reviewed until the position is filled.
The expected outcome of the research is a PhD dissertation concerning the development of distributed scalable and robust algorithms to coordinate multiple agents in open large smart buildings. Topics of interest for the research include distributed and decentralized exact and heuristic optimization, multi-agent systems, semantic technologies and data stream processing, among others.
The research will be carried out in a close collaboration between the Centre for Intelligent Information Technologies (CETINIA) at the University Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) and the Department of Informatics and Control Systems (DIA) at the Institute Mines Telecom Lille Douai (IMT Lille Douai).
The candidate will conduct research activities organised as follows:
· Months 1-18 at the Centre for Intelligent Information Technologies (CETINIA) at URJC.
· Months 19-36 at the Department of Informatics and Control Systems (DIA) at IMT Lille Douai.
The candidate is expected to have (or be finishing) a Master’s Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
The applicant is expected to have a good background in multi-agent systems, semantic technologies and operations research. Applicants with an experience in one or more of the above academic fields are encouraged to apply. Furthermore, a good knowledge of written and oral English are required, as well as good programming skills, preferably in Java or Matlab. A high level achievement and experience in multi-disciplinary collaboration are an advantage.
The work contract should start in April 2017 and should last for three years, with a gross average salary around €1.700 per month.
We will carefully review your application and you will be advised of an outcome in March 2017.
The Department of Informatics (http://www.uib.no/en/ii) has up to two vacancies for permanent positions as professor/associate professor in machine learning. If the top applicants do not qualify as full professor, they may be evaluated for an associate professor position. The department will build a strong research group in machine learning. This announcement is a key step towards this goal. Our current research groups, in particular, the groups in bioinformatics and visualization, envision multiple opportunities for collaboration.
Qualifications and personal qualities:
Key criteria for evaluating candidates will be scientific qualifications, the ability to attract external funding, project management, and interest and experience in teaching and supervising students. We are seeking candidates qualifying for a full professorship and candidates qualifying for an associate professor position. We will offer well-qualified candidates with an excellent research plan a start-up package including one or several recruitment positions (PhD students, postdoctoral candidates). In the case when several highly qualified candidates are identified, up to two candidates may be offered a position, subject to the budget situation.
